The IceHouse Tonight presents
"A Shropshire Lad"
by A. E. Housman
Adapted and directed by Ara Barlieb
Feb. 20 - 22, March 1
Charles Brown Icehouse
56 River Street
Bethlehem PA
Crowded Kitchen Players has revised 'A Shropshire Lad', one of their most
critically successful shows.
Kathy Lauer
wrote in her Morning Call review of the 2014 production that, "The cast
fills the stage with energy as the assortment of farmers, barmaids, soldiers,
widows, lovers, murderers, constables, drunks and ghosts attempt to
draw a young poet into the festivities."
Lehigh
Valley Stage's Ellen Blickman called it, "An exquisite production from
start to finish," adding, "This play is not just for lovers of
theater and of poetry but for all who have become a little cynical with life.
It restores our hope, and reminds us, that life is meant to be
lived."
Almost all
the dialogue is lifted directly from Housman's original 63 poems and crafted
into conversations and monologues that tell stories, portrays lives, and
depict triumphs and tragedies that portray dashed dreams and lost loves.
